Woodland and scrub

A thousand years ago, Mousehold was a tract of wood pasture, with mixed grazing and tree cropping. Today, over half the Heath is woodland. Maps and photos show a steady increase of trees and scrub over the past 80 years. Woodland adds variety and shade to the wildlife habitat as well as being an attractive place to walk in any season. Importantly, it also binds and stores carbon and soaks up traffic noise and pollutants.
