Reliefs and exemptions - Supporting small business relief

From 1 April 2026, the Government’s Supporting Small Business (SSB) Relief will protect eligible businesses facing significant increases in their Business Rates following the 2026 revaluation. The scheme caps annual bill increases at £800 or the relevant transitional relief cap, whichever is higher.

Businesses that lose some or all of their Small Business Rate Relief, Rural Rate Relief, Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Relief, or 2023 SSB relief may qualify.

Norwich City Council will automatically apply this relief to all eligible accounts — there is no need to apply. This aligns with national and local‑authority practice where qualifying ratepayers receive SSB relief without submitting an application.

If you believe you should receive this relief but it has not appeared on your bill, please contact our Business Rates team.
