Keeping standards high at the council
Every council must have a Standards Committee. This Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct from Councillors and Co-opted Members as well as holding Standards Hearings when required.
The Code of conduct (as detailed in part 4 of the Constitution) applies to all elected and co-opted councillors. It sets out clear rules they must follow to ensure they act fairly and responsibly upholding the Seven Principles of Public Life , also known as the Nolan Principles.
